802.2
Logical Link Control

DI3270 802.2 LLC is a full-featured micro-to-mainframe connectivity product able to
operate standalone or as a gateway between an IBM host and a micro-based local area
network communicating via IEEE 802.2 protocol over Ethernet or token ring topologies.
DI3270 802.2 LLC supports from 8 to 253 sessions (or user workstations) in a LAN gateway
configuration. Data transfer speeds between DI3270 802.2 and the IBM host range from 4 to
16Mbps depending on the capabilities of the Token Ring or Ethernet LAN.
Standalone
DSPU
In a standalone or single workstation configuration, DI3270 functions as a down stream
physical unit, communicating with a 3174 controller or a 3725/3745 FEP via 802.2 logical
link control protocol. Each workstation running DI3270 802.2 as a DSPU is visible to the
controller or the FEP as a physical unit.
Gateway DSPU/DSLU
In a gateway configuration, the gateway machine running DI3270 802.2 is a down stream
physical unit with down stream logical units attached (DSLU). As a DSPU, the gateway is
visible to the controller or the FEP; the workstations, attached as logical units, are
not.
TN3270 Access
In a gateway configuration, the DI3270 MultiProtocol Comm Server can support
access from any TN3270 or TN3270E terminal emulator, regardless of host connect protocol.
This means that any TN3270-compatible emulator can be used to access the mainframe
via the DI3270 Comm Server, including Attachmate Extra!, Wall Data Rumba, WRQ
Reflection, and Zephyr Development Passport, to name a few.
